African American Dance Company
Energy, rhythm, precision and grace - the African American Dance Company captures and delivers the spirit of dance styles of the African Diaspora. The company's repertoire consists of original choreography based on a fusion of modern, jazz, African American, Latin American and African Diaspora dance styles. The ensemble has worked with such renowned artists as Francis Nii-Yartey, Artistic Director of the University of Ghana, West Africa; April Berry, former principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre; Elana Anderson from Deeply Rooted Productions; and Reynaldo Gonzalez from Mantanzas, Cuba.
The Dance Company has been met with great enthusiastic acclaim, hailed by
the Indiana Daily Student as "the best kept secret in Bloomington, Indiana."
The Herald-Times, Bloomington says; "Dancing, as performed by the talented
IU African American Dance Company is an experience that is uplifting and fun,
to be watched and savored by many. The enthusiasm of the young dancers was
captivating. Iris Rosa, Director and choreographer, is gifted in using the
many talents of the IU dancers."
