Mary Embry has had great accomplishment with SIFE [Students in Free Enterprise] this semester. The leadership class has doubled this year to 21 students leading service learning projects. New students have teamed with experienced students, for a total of eight service-learning projects. SIFE had over 100 attend the first mass meeting. SIFE largest project works with Global Gifts in Indianapolis and Ten Thousand Villages out of Akron, PA, to sell fair trade artisan items in the Bloomington community. The ultimate goal of this project is to inspire the community to create a non-profit fair trade store in Bloomington. This project has become a "community partner" or client for Beth Wood's Journalism's J360, a PR service-learning class. Those students are spending the semester creating PR outreach tools that will be used to help SIFE create a board next semester. SIFE students also received an IUSA grant for $1400 to go to our first ever retreat pre-competition in the Spring. The retreat will consist of doing a team-building ropes course and spending the afternoon and evening secluded in Brown County to prepare everything we need for Regional Competition.

Janis Shaffer and Eloise Paul have recently received MERC grants from Macy’s, Kohl's and Target. Shaffer attended a meeting in New York with the YMA Education Conference and in January of 2007 Eloise and Kate Rowold attended the National YMA Awards Scholarship Dinner along with the 8 students who won $5,000 last spring in the YMA competition. Shaffer and Paul went to a recognition dinner that Target sponsored in the fall as “A key leader of IU and an excellent partner to help the Target relationship."

Jessica Rall and Kelly Richardson hosted a Dental Conference tour group in September 2006 . Approximately 20 guests viewed highlights of the Sage Collection including IU memorabilia such as Senior Cords and artifacts related to Herman B Wells; Al Unser's Indy 500 automobile racing uniform; Bill Blass ensembles; garments from the 1920s-1990s; and various accessories and printed materials.
