June 13, 2008: CEEP has issued a new Education Policy Brief, Promises and Pitfalls of Virtual Education in the United States and Indiana. This brief examines the main aspects of virtual education to provide a summary of the current status of virtual education in the United States. Although there are many issues that surround virtual education, this policy brief focuses on the primary issues of funding, program and teacher quality, and administrative oversight and accountability. Policy Perspectives on this topic are presented by four guest contributors. Policy recommendations are presented for moving virtual education forward in Indiana.

May 9, 2008: CEEP’s newest Education Policy Brief, Calculating High School Graduation Rates, examines various methods used to calculate graduation rates, the history of these methodologies, and the nationwide trend toward a cohort rate. The authors review Indiana’s legislation that has shaped how the graduation rate is calculated in the state. And, the recent push for a uniform national methodology is considered. Policy Perspectives on this topic are included from three guest contributors.

March 27, 2008: Perspectives on Indiana’s Key K-12 Legislation of 2008 CEEP staff have prepared a summary of the nine key K-12 education bills enacted by the Indiana legislature. A unique feature of this legislative summary is the inclusion of commentary and perspectives on each bill shared by eight representatives of statewide education or business associations.
