Intermediate Level Reading and Listening Project

Announcement – Program Launch
April 23, 2007
Today, CeLCAR is proud to launch a new series of online multimedia modules for students of Central Asian languages. The Intermediate Level Reading/Listening Project begins with an initial set of ten modules for students of Tajiki and Uyghur languages. In the near future we will add Pashto, Mongolian, and Uzbek language modules to the corpus and continue to add additional material on a regular basis. We are working with language coordinators and materials developers both here in Bloomington, Indiana and in Central Asia to expand this project to include Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Turkmen, and Azerbaijani languages. The goal of the Intermediate Reading/Listening Exercises is to produce listening and reading exercises for students of Central Asian languages at the intermediate level to help build their listening and reading skills, broaden their vocabulary, enrich their appreciation of grammar, and deepen their understanding of the cultures of the region. Each module features original or adapted written and spoken texts that present language structures in authentic cultural contexts. The texts are accompanied by a series of multimedia exercises developed by our native-speaker developers. Please feel free to explore the modules at your leisure. Our only request is that you register yourself at CeLCAR and create a user profile in order to assist us in tracking the use of the modules. As always, we appreciate hearing your feedback so please contact me directly or any member of CeLCAR. All language modules are also available in CD format. Please contact the center for more information.
