Distinguished Alumni Award 2001

The College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Association honored Dr. Jack M. Gill with its Distinguished Alumni Award for 2001 at the Annual Recognition Banquet in November at the Indiana Memorial Union. Dean Kumble R. Subbaswamy made the presentation.

Jack M. Gill, Ph.D.

Dr. Gill received his bachelor's degree from Lamar University in Texas in 1958 and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from IU in 1963. He went on to found and/or serve as an officer of numerous high technology companies and has published many articles and papers. In 1999, he was named a winner of the Horatio Alger Award for distinguished Americans. He is founder and general partner of Vanguard Venture Partners, a venture capital firm specializing in high technology start-ups, located in Palo Alto, California, and Houston, Texas. He is also senior advisor to the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a faculty member at the Harvard Medical School. In 1997, Jack and his wife, Linda, provided a $5 million gift to establish the Linda and Jack Gill Center for Biomolecular Measurements at IU. The Gills have also made significant contributions to the School of Music and the Kelley School of Business.
