Action:
- Approved minutes from January 26, 2006 as written.
Discussion:
- Draft of proposed changes to B.A. and B.S. majors in Psychology - the department was seeking comments rather than approval at this stage, and the committee suggested that the department clarify the "outside concentration" and urged the department to enforce the 3.000 grade point average standard for the B.S. program strictly, or to eliminate the requirement.
- Catherine Larson gave an update from the Arts and Sciences Career Services oversight committee, and CUE recommended that the proposed change of Q400 to a 200 level course go forward.
- Catherine Larson also informed the committee of programs that will be discontinued: Environmental Studies (a second major program only - to be discontinued July 1, 2006), and the B.A. in the College with a major in Music (to be discontinued July 1, 2007 at the request of the Jacobs School of Music).
- The most recent draft version of a general education policy was discussed (1:30 p.m. March 23 draft), and the committee expressed general support, especially for the concept of proportional representation on the committee that would determine appropriate course lists, and for the stipulation that at least 5 of the 6 required courses be from the College. There was discussion of the meaning of item 7 in the proposal ("Internship/Service Learning/Civic Engagement, or Introduction to and Overview of a Profession Outside the Major, or Research/Creative Activity").
