DISCUSSION
The Committee continued discussion of mathematics requirements using a second draft of a questionnaire (to be sent to chairs, directors of undergraduate studies, and advisors) as the starting point. Questions raised in discussion include the following:
  • Should the committee initiate faculty focus groups and then create a questionnaire?
  • What kinds of math-related issues are important to everyone? Dimensions? Ratios? Relationships?
  • What is beautiful and important about math? What does everyone need to know?
  • Could there be a 100 level course dealing with aesthetic concepts in math?
  • Should there be a requirement that goes across the curriculum?
