ACTIONS
  1. Approved minutes of September 19, 2003 meeting.
  2. Approved proposal from the Physics Department for a new "track" within the B.S. Physics degree program: Applied Physics.
DISCUSSION
Minutes The minutes of the September 19, 2003 meeting were approved.

Applied Physics The Committee discussed the proposal for a track in "applied physics" within the B.S. Physics degree. Prof Gantz moved that the Committee accept the proposal, and convey to the Physics department the Committee's comments. Seconded by Prof Ivie. Approved unanimously.

Transfer and degree articulation issues Dean Larson gave an update of transfer and articulation issues, and the committee discussed such topics as course equivalencies, current initiatives to articulate with programs at two year institutions, transfer workshops to be developed, and transfer issues within major requirements.

Senior Year Issues Dean Larson asked for a volunteer to serve on the Senior Year Issues task force. Olivia Snyder volunteered. The task force could facilitate discussion at the College and departmental level about such issues as capstone courses, senior seminars, theses, other senior projects, eportfolios, job search strategies, internships, pathways to grad school, and rituals and traditions for the senior year.

Grades of Incomplete The Committee discussed departmental, College, and university policies and practices regarding grades of incomplete. Dean Lindemann presented statistics from Fall 2001 regarding grades of "I" (incomplete) and "W" (withdrawal) for undergraduate classes in the College.

The next meeting is scheduled for November 13, 2003 in Kirkwood Hall 007. [Note: this meeting was later cancelled, with the next meeting scheduled for December 11, 2003.]
