Undergraduate Curricular Information
A few things to keep in mind:
- Some changes can be made "in-house" through the College, but some
must be approved at other levels.
- Please work with any other units that might be affected by changes in your unit before submitting the changes to the College — it is particularly important to confer with colleagues on other campuses as faculty review of the IU system-wide Course Catalog continues.
- If another unit outside the College asks you to lend support for a curricular proposal (undergraduate or graduate), please copy Catherine Larson (Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education) or Emília Martins (Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Program Development) so that the appropriate associate dean of the College will be informed and will be able to respond.
- The "new course forms" and "course change forms" mentioned in this
publication are university-wide and are required for approval at other levels.
Your department can order them from IU Printing Services, 855-6072 or on the Web at http://www.indiana.edu/~printsvs/items_for_resale.html.
We all hope that these forms will soon be retired, but for now they are still required.
- Forms included in this publication are intended to be helpful, to speed up the process by letting you know the information that will be needed for the College to review your department’s request. Any request for College review can always be made in the form of a memo from the chair or director as long as the requested information is included.
- Proposals for new degree programs will need to be reviewed by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) after approvals at the College and campus and university level, and it is best to present them in the ICHE format from the beginning to save time. Proposals for new certificate programs of 30 credit hours or more will also need the approval of the ICHE. Certificate programs requiring fewer than 30 hours will have final approval at the Board of Trustees level. See the ICHE Web site for further information, especially http://www.che.state.in.us/academics/program_guidelines.pdf.
