College welcomes new dean Kumble R. Subbaswamy (who goes by the name Swamy) has been named the new dean for the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University. Currently dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Swamy is expected to begin his IU tenure on July 1. He will take over from Acting Dean Russell Hanson, professor of political science, who has held the office since Morton Lowengrub left at the end of the 1998-99 school year. Swamy, who earned his doctorate in physics from IU in 1976, will also become a full professor in the physics department. He has previously taught at the University of California, Irvine, and the University of Kentucky, where he serced as chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy as well as associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
