Tara Maloney, Class of 2009, is currently majoring in Biology and History. She is also working towards an honors level certificate through the Liberal Arts and Management Program (LAMP).
Tara is a Wells Scholar, Life Science Scholar, and a Hoosier Scholar. She recently was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and was awarded the Dan H. Eikenberry Scholarship by the History Department. She is active on the LAMP Student Advisory Board, serves as a mentor to freshmen in the Hutton Honors College, and serves on the College of Arts and Sciences Academic Fairness Committee. She is also a teaching assistant for a Personal Law class in the business school. Last summer, she spent her summer studying in London, England. In addition, Tara has previously served as a Floor Vice-Governor for Teter Student Government, Judicial Board Programming Chair, Freshmen Council member in the Business School, and Kelley Student Government member. She has also served as an intern for a Personal Law class during Intensive Freshmen Seminar (IFS) and through this opportunity she worked directly with incoming freshmen and her professor.
Originally from Floyds Knobs, Indiana, Tara graduated with distinction from Floyd Central High School and was tied for first in her class. She was Co Editor-in-Chief of the Newspaper, an AP Scholar, Student Council President, Spanish Club President, and was a Hoosier Girls State Good Citizen. Through her student government activities, she organized two coat drives throughout the Southern Indiana area and collected approximately 10,000 coats for homeless veterans in her community. She was also a member of the diving team, orchestra, Public Law 221 committee, and National Honors Society.
She is currently interested in delving into life at IU and making the most of her years here. Tara is looking forward spending her summer studying in Italy and working with the IFS program again. She is excited about the opportunity to make a difference on this campus through her role on the Student Body Supreme Court. After graduating, Tara hopes to pursue a career in law.
