The Creole
Institute’s two dictionaries have different objectives. The Haitian
Creole-English Bilingual Dictionary (HCEBD) is designed to assist in
reading kreyōl texts or listening to speech; the Learner’s
Dictionary is designed to assist users of English in constructing (speaking
or writing) kreyōl utterances. It does contain a
Creole-English index, but that is not the same as a Creole-English dictionary.
For American learners, a combination of the Learner’s Dictionary
and the HCEBD provides the best
alternative, and the two are available as a set at reduced cost.
