Research Interests
Language teacher development, classroom discourse, curriculum and program design, interlanguage development.
Personal Statement
My research in language teacher development focuses on the development of teacher reflectivity, identity and language awareness and particularly how formal pre-service or in service training interfaces with language teacher development. My research on classroom discourse is currently focused on the role of teacher talk in engaging learner participation in writing conferences. In the area of curriculum and program design, I am interested in second language academic literacy development, content-based instruction, extensive reading, and the integration of skill instruction in relation to the needs of pre-academic and matriculated adult language learners, and in particular the development of sequences of courses with articulated goals, objectives, and means. In the area of interlanguage development, my research continues on the nature of SL non-narrative writing in relation to grounding and the development of tense-aspect features.
