Ruth Rogaski


Ruth Rogaski specializes in the history of nineteenth and twentieth-century China, with a focus on the social history of science and medicine.  She is currently completing a book manuscript entitled Hygienic Modernity: Preserving Health and Preventing Disease in Treaty Port, China and is beginning a new project on imperial science in Manchuria. She also has teaching and research interests in gender history and the history of martial arts in East Asia. Ann Carmichael of the Departments of History and History and Philosophy of Science, Indiana University, will provide a comparative comment. This is a Horizons of Knowledge lecture which is also sponsored by the Sociology Department and the Center for the History of Medicine.
