The East Asian Studies Center at Indiana University is holding a summer Chinese Language Institute for K-12 teachers at Bradford Woods, IU’s outdoor learning center. Boarding with native Chinese speakers, participants will be fully immersed in Chinese language and cultural environment. Workshop Format: The workshop will start at Sunday evening dinner with participants and teachers and will end after Friday lunch. In the mornings, Monday through Friday, classroom instruction will review basic grammar and daily usage for spoken Chinese and will drill on situational conversations. Group discussions on improving skills in Chinese language teaching will be also included in the classroom instruction. In the afternoon, group activities and individual tutoring will provide participants ample opportunities to practice Chinese. In the evenings, various interesting and relaxing games, movies and internet browsing will help participants to explore Chinese culture. Workshop Setting: Bradford Woods, nestled in the hills of southern Indiana, is situated on 2,400 acres of land committed to the enrichment and education of all who enter. Bradford Manor, a beautifully restored, three-story br ick home, is a comfortable accommodation for class and lodging. Hiking trails, campground, swimming pool and a 110-acre pond are ideal facilities for summer outdoor activities.
