Korea: Fifty Years After the War
Lecture: 4/13/2000 (Institute for Defense Analysis) "North Korea’s Underdog Son Succeeds His Tiger-Father: Domestic and Foreign Policy Implications" Thursday, April 13 7:15 pm, Lindley Hall 102 Indiana University-Bloomington Dr. Kongdan (Katy) Oh is a Research Staff Member at the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA), a public policy think tank conducting research for the Office of the Secretary of Defense. She is also a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institutions. Long an important expert on North Korea, she has worked as an international policy analyst for the RAND corp. from 1987-1995. She holds a Ph.D. in Asian Studies from the University of California, Berkeley and has just edited a volume for the Asia Society’s "Korea Briefing" series. In June her co-authored book, North Korea Through the Looking Glass, will be published by Brookings. Dr. Oh will discuss the North Korean leadership succession and its foreign policy implications. North Korea has provided numerous problems for our foreign policy at a time when the Cold War has ended and the world gropes toward a new structure of international relations. North Korea’s continued and dogged survival in a region of tremendous strategic importance make understanding its current leadership vitally important to all informed citizens.
