General Resources--East Asia
Access Asia
Website of the Australian Asian Education Foundation (AEF) that provides access to general information, curricular materials and resources about China, India, Indonesia, Japan and Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

AEMS (Asian Educational Media Service)
A program of the Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies at the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign. This site features a searchable database of media resources on East Asia for K-12 educators. Entries include brief reviews of audio-visual materials, as well as purchasing information. See also their list of Related Sites.

Asia Ednet
Primarily a tutorial for K-12 educators on how to use the internet to supplement and enhance teaching about Asia. Be sure to check out their website directory under the heading "Online Services." The section on lesson plans and units of instruction includes a number of model webquests.

Asia for Educators
Features teaching aids, resource lists, multi-media discussions and web course development compiled by the East Asian Curriculum Project (EACP) of Columbia University and the Columbia Project on Asia in the Core Curriculum.

Asia Society
Parent organization for both Asia Source and Ask Asia. This website features an Asia Society events calendar, on-line exhibitions, roundtable discussions on various aspects of Asian culture and society, educational resources, publications, and transcripts of speeches.

Asia Source
Collected web resources of the Asia Society, including current events, reference tools, events calendars, a database of Asia specialists, bibliographies, and related links.

Asian Film Connections
A collaboration of the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) and the University of Southern California's University Libraries, Center for East Asian Studies, and the Asia Pacific Media Center (APMC), based at USC's Annenberg Center for Communication. The website focuses on contemporary and significant feature films from China, India, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Entries on individual films include summaries, still photos, and video clips. The site also includes biographies and filmographies of highlighted directors.

Ask Asia
Asia Society's website designed especially for K-12 educators.

CNN's Asia Now
Provides access to current events in Asia, combining articles from CNN, Time and Asiaweek.

East Asian Studies Center Resources and Publications
Publications and resources for K-12 educators from Indiana University's East Asian Studies Center.

Education about Asia
Home of the journal that features articles for K-12 educators about incorporating East Asia into their curriculum. Includes sample articles, publication guidelines, and resource list.

Five College Center for East Asia
This site provides general resources for East Asia including units developed by teachers, books, kits and maps. You may request from them these resources.


PIER
Website of PIER, the Programs in International Educational Resources of the Yale Center for International and Area Studies. PIER provides a number of services for educators, such as curriculum consultation, intensive summer institutes for educators, day workshops, and a Resource Library.

SPICE
On-line catalog of the Stanford Program on International and Cross-cultural Education's curricular materials.

China WWW Virtual Library - Internet Guide for Chinese Studies
Subject guide to China-related websites.

The Harvard Fairbank Center Virtual Library
A site rich in resources on modern China, beginning with the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) to the present. Do not be distracted by the Bookshelf at the top of the page-it only leads you to Amazon.com. The real goodies are below.

Primary Source-New England China Network
A site aimed at K-12 educators interested in incorporating China in their curriculum. Features lists of print resources and recommended links. The site is a prototype, accessible by clicking "China" on the new main page, and then on "for more information about the New England China Network."

Center for Japanese Studies-University of Michigan
Features lists of recommended websites for K-12 educators interested in incorporating Japan in their curriculum.

J-GUIDE
Subject guide to Japan-related internet resources.

Japan Focus
Japan Focus presents writings about Japan, Japan in Asia and the world, as well as Japanese and international perspectives on contemporary Japanese politics, economics, society, and culture. It offers translations from Japanese, reprints of important English language texts, and Japan Focus originals.

Japan Information Network
A site that provides access to a collection of wonderful Japan-related sites, including the "Kids Web Japan," "Japan of Today," and "Virtual Museum of Traditional Japanese Arts."

Japan Studies Leadership Program
A set of general curricular materials on Japan created by participants in the Japan Studies Leadership Program of the Five College Center for East Asian Studies in Maine.

National Clearinghouse for US-Japan Studies
This site provides both a bibliographic database of print resources relevant to K-12 educators who wish to incorporate Japan into their curriculum, as well as a database of lesson plans. The site also includes on-line versions of the Clearinghouse's Japan Digest and other publications.

East Asian Literature
Asian Topics
A subset of the Columbia "Asia for Educators" website. It features attractive multimedia discussions rich with images and information on subjects such as "The Confucian Tradition", "Tang Poetry", "Classical Japan", "The Tale of Genji", and a number of others relevant to East Asian Literature. Each topic includes an audio-video segment, background, bibliographies, classroom materials and related links.

Creighton University - World Literature Program - Asia
Currently covering traditional Chinese, Japanese and Indian literature, this site organized by the World Literature program of Creighton University has plans to expand its coverage through the modern era. The Asian area of this extensive site is first organized topically as in "The Golden Age of Japanese Literature." Clicking on the topic will reveal major literary works grouped together under the heading. Each literary work has its own page with a general description of the work, recommended readings and links to on-line resources.

Education about Asia
A direct link to the Spring 2001 issue (volume 6:1) titled "Teaching Asian Literatures." We order this as a back issue and give this out to the participants of the "Teaching East Asian Literature in the High School" summer workshop.

SAC Web - World Literature Outlines
Features both chronological lists of important works in the Chinese and Japanese literary traditions compiled by San Antonio College faculty. Lists feature bibliographic citations for anthologies and works in translation, as well as links to related web sites (although it does not appear these links have been updated recently). Both the Chinese and Japanese lists have a related resource page.

Modern Chinese Literature and Culture Resources Page
An extensive set of on-line bibliographies maintained by faculty at Ohio State University. Includes bibliographies on Chinese literature in general, Lu Xun, Education and the Visual Arts, among others. Also includes an image archives and list of on-lin resources.

Renditions Author Database
Index to the translations of works of Chinese literature that appear in Renditions, a journal dedicated to the translation of Chinese literary works into English. Accessible by original author or translator's name. Includes over 420 brief biographies of Chinese authors and poets.

Japanese Literature
Japanese Literature at Duke University
A collection of bibliographic and on-line resources related to Japanese literature. Many of the works cited are in Japanese, but the site includes information on Japanese literature in translation as well.

JLIT
Includes a fairly comprehensive list of websites on Japanese literature organized by author's name or subject category. Most sites are in English. Sites in Japanese are indicated with a (J).

The Japanese Literature Homepage
A site rich in information, the Japanese Literature Homepage features outline discussions of Japanese literature in the Classical and Modern periods, detailed timelines, index of Japanese authors, and lists of on-line resources.

Asian American Studies Research Guide

Asian American Studies Resource Guide
