January 2002:

A Prosperous Beginning
to the New Year

The January issue of the EASC Newsletter celebrates a momentous event for EASC and Indiana University: a $2 million Freeman Foundation grant. The grant will be used to improve East Asia resources and instruction across the entire Bloomington campus. It will enhance education about East Asia at IU, as well as allow EASC to improve its existing community education programs and create new ones.

This semester we also begin a new section called What to Read, reviewing recently published books on East Asia. This issue includes two books by individuals affiliated with Indiana University. Our regular Faculty Notes, Student/Alumni Notes, and Profiles sections cover the latest work on East Asia in Bloomington.
