This article reports on a study tour of China and argues that, although China has bright, highly motivated students, there are some problems in China. This article maintains that Chinese urbanization is proceeding rapidly in step with population growth and a structural shift in employment patterns. It discusses governmental policies and economic reforms that enhance the urbanization process, describing four metropolitan areas as models for future urbanization.
