319. Five-story Stone Pagoda at the Site of Chongnimsa Temple

Paekche, 7th century, National Treasure No. 9, Height 8.44m, Puro County, South Chungchong Province.

This is one of two extant Paekche-era stone pagodas. The arrangement of the stones of the foundation and the place-ment of the eaves on the upper part of the pagoda give the impression of wooden architecture. An inscription praising the Tang general Su Ting-fang (595-667), who helped Silla to occupy Paekche, is carved along the four sides of the first storv of the pagoda.
