707. Nong'ak, farmer's music 

Nong'ak, is generally performed by a forty member team of musician-dancers led by the gong-playing sangsoe It is gen-erally believed that farmer's music originated when Korean tribesmen established settlements and began farming. Farmers music developed as a means of enhancing efficien-cy by easing farmersn fatigue and cultivating a spirit of coop-eration within the village community The music is generally performed on important days in the farmers' lives such as the Lunar New Year, the Harvest Moon Festival, etc.
