109. The Han River

The Han River stretches 514kilometers from the north to empty into the Yellow Sea west of Seoul. Its flow is closely related to the summer rainy season when it swells, some-times to flood levels. During the rest of the year, the water level is relatively low From the 1960s through the 1980s, rapid industrial development and population growth severe-ly damaged the ecosystem of the Han River, but there have been significant improvements since the implementation of the Han River Development Plan launched in 1982.
