Painting
213. Clearing After Rain on Inwang Mountain

by Chong Son, Choson, 1751, National Treasure NQ 216, Ink on paper, 79.2xl38.2cm, Ho-am Art Museum

Chong Son painted many mountain scenes, masterfully por-traying the effects of the changing seasons and weather. This painting, completed in 1751, shows the clear7 crisp air of the mountains after rain. The huge rock formation is depict-ed by applying layers of ink and linear strokes to define the eroded slopes. The vegetation in the lower part is depicted with small dots. These are both the hallmarks of Chong Son's landscape paintings.
