Kim Chong-hui (1786-1856) was a great man of letters and master calligrapher who created his own unique style known as the "Ch'usa style." In this painting, Kim used a stiff, worn brush and spare composition to create the atmo-sphere of a cold, crisp winter day. The artistic quality of the painting, however, lies not so much in its Iyrical descriptions as in the brushstrokes and tonalities.
