Stoneware Jar Silla, Fifth-sixth century From Tomb No. 30, King Michtu's Tomb, Kyongiu, Height 34cm, Diameter at mouth 22.4cm, Diameter of body 30.6cm, Kyongiu National Museum One of the unique features of this jar is the clay figurines that adorn the neck and shoulders. These figurines include tortoises, birds, frogs, four-legged animals, snakes, and even a pregnant woman playing the kayagum. These figurines appear to represent wishes for reproduction, fertility and expelling evil. However, the significance of the snake biting a frog iS uncertain. Click here to return |
