Recording MIDI tracks

The following set of tutorials will walk you through the steps of recording MIDI tracks in your Digital Performer project. Before you begin, make certain your MIDI keyboard, interface and computer are properly communicating. This may require configuring your Audio MIDI Setup. If you have DP launched, you can quickly open the AMS setup by choosing the Setup menu and selecting Audio MIDI Setup. Select MIDI Devices, then click on Test Setup. Play some notes on your keyboard and see if the arrows going into the picture of your interface light up (this is good). Take the cursor, which should now look like 8th-notes and click on the icon of your keyboard--you should hear a chord. If you don't, read the manual on configuring your AMS setup. To be certain you keyboard is communicating with DP, chose the Studio menu in DP and select MIDI Monitor. As you play keys on your keyboard(s), you should see green lights come on, indicating the part and MIDI channel.

Use the three video lessons below to learn the process of recording tracks, both in real time and also with step recording. Don't forget you can leave these videos open, stop, scroll, etc. while you try it yourself in Performer.
