A Mini-Lesson13 Ways to Tell Time

SYNOPSIS |
Students explore different ways gelogical time can be measured: comparing the time dimensions for each method, the mechanisms of each method, and the materials used. |
CONCEPTS |
Geological time can be measured in several different ways, providing independent lines of evidence for measuring deep time and sequencing geological and biolgical events of the past. |

STUDENT HANDOUTS |
To be used in conjunction with a timeline activitiy or the "Time Machine", either before or after. Also can be used with a lesson on the concept of half-life and radiometric dating.
Hand out the 4 pages (graph and worksheet can be back-to-back, as can the 2 pages of the text, making 2 sheets total).
Should take no more than one 45-55 minute period, or as take-home assignment.
