Travel Funds
The College of Arts and Sciences allocates travel money to the department for each tenured and tenure-track faculty member to attend one professional conference per fiscal year. Travel reimbursements are based on specific travel destinations and are rather limited. Please consult the faculty secretary to request a travel authorization form several weeks before your trip. If you obtain your travel authorization code early, you can charge your air ticket directly to a university account. When you receive your travel reimbursement form from the IU Travel Management Office upon your return, please submit this form with receipts to the faculty secretary.
Faculty may request funding for an additional professional trip (or additional funding for the one trip) through the Department Research Fund.
Please consult the following portion of our Web site for more details regarding faculty travel: http://www.indiana.edu/~frithome/faculty/travel.pdf.
Department Research Fund
Requests for funds may be submitted to the Chair by October 15, after which they will be evaluated by the Departmental Funds Committee. Requests should include a budget and a description of the project (for conference travel, include name and location of conference and whether or not you will present a paper). Awards may be used for travel, supplies, equipment, hourly wages, and other expenses in connection with research efforts.
Faculty-Graduate Research Fund
Proposals are due to the Chair on October 15 for awards (not in excess of $750) to be used during the following spring semester for the collaborative work of a faculty member and graduate student. Requests for funds will be evaluated by the Departmental Funds Committee. Awards are intended primarily for student hourly support.
Mary-Margaret Barr Koon Fund
The Barr Koon Fund was established to support intellectual and cultural activities at IU related to French and Italian culture. Application is open to all members of the IU-Bloomington community. The deadline for funding this year is September 15. To apply, please submit a project outline with budget to the chair.
Photocopying Funds
Each semester, the department adds a sum of money to each faculty ID card for photocopying related to teaching and research activities. These funds are accessed by using an assigned code number, which will be relayed to you by Isabel.
Long-Distance Telephone Use
Each permanent faculty member is given a long-distance telephone access number. Using this number, the staff tracks each faculty member’s phone charges. Each professor is also allowed up to $30 of long-distance telephone charges every three months. Charges in excess of $30 are billed to the faculty member. Excess charges resulting from departmental service activities may be appealed.
