Libraries
For two decades the Indiana University library system has been among the fastest-growing in the nation. The Herman B. Wells Library which contains over 4.5 million volumes and nearly 10 million other materials, is one of the top research libraries in the United States. The holdings in French literature and linguistics as well as every period and genre of Italian literature and culture fully qualify the collection for graduate studies and specialization in these disciplines. These rich collections are enhanced by access to a wide range of advanced databases and by subscriptions to many French or Italian serials.
Other libraries on or near campus also serve as resources for students and faculty. The Lilly Library which collects manuscripts and rare works, enjoys an international reputation. Its holdings include many first or early editions of French and Italian classics and noteworthy examples of medieval and humanist hands. Some of the more specialized campus libraries that may be of interest are the Fine Arts Library, in the Art Museum; the Music Library; the library of the Kinsey Institute; and the Education Library. Off campus, the Monroe County Public Library has a more general but nevertheless extensive collection in a newly renovated and expanded building.
Computing
Computing resources at Indiana University are among the best in the nation. A survey by Intel rates Indiana University as the number one college in the nation for wireless Internet capabilities.
University Information Technology Services (UITS) provides a wide range of support for graduate study and teaching in all fields. These services include a computer education program, a staff of knowledgeable and accessible consultants, computing clusters and classrooms with a rich array of hardware and software.
Students with their own personal computers can log into the university's computing resources (e-mail, internet access) using their own mode of connection. Almost all university and departmental policies, course listings, requirements, and program descriptions are available from the university’s Bloomington home page on the World Wide Web.
