GradGrants Center, Fall 2002 Workshops

With the start of a new year, the GradGrants Center is hard at work planning a new slate of workshops geared towards helping IU grad students on their eternal quest for funding. On deck this semester is host of standby favorite workshops as well as one new addition to the GradGrants Center workshop lineup:

  • Get a Jump on the Fulbright (September 12, 2002)
    Headed by Charles Bankart, Program Associate at the Office of International Programs, The Get a Jump on the Fulbright workshop is geared towards providing a detailed explanation of the Fulbright application process. Bankart will answer any questions that prospective applicants have regarding the Fulbright.
  • Grant Writing Workshop (October, 2002)
    Headed by Brian Burkhart, one of the GradGrants Center's grant writing consultants, the Grant Writing Workshop is designed to give students a hands on introduction to the process of writing a funding proposal. Burkhart will walk through several example grant proposals and will share a wealth of inside tips and tricks geared towards improving student's chances of successfully writing a grant proposal.
  • Grants on the Net Workshop (November, 2002)
    Led by Karen Bayne, the GradGrants Center's computer guru, this hands-on workshop will show you the web sites that will help you find sources of fellowships and grants for graduate study. This workshop will give you a brief overview of navigating the Web using Netscape. Students will visit sponsor sites, work with searching on-line databases, and check out some other good spots to start your search for more information on external funding.
  • Funding Sources for International Students (December, 2002)
    Being an international grad student at Indiana University can be difficult. Not only do you have to deal with culture shock and being far away from home, but sources of funding for graduate research are few and far between. Never fear, for the GradGrants Center has just the workshop for you! Designed to help international grad students find funding for their graduate research and education, the "Funding Sources for International Students" workshop will discuss all manner of funding sources, tips and tricks for the application process, and how to overcome the inherent challenges involves with searching for funding.
