Recreation
The director’s degree is an intermediate degree between the master’s degree and the doctorate. Candidates for the Director of Recreation degree pursue a program of study that places primary emphasis on planning, organizing, developing programs, managing finances, dealing with staff and public relations, and/or specializing in specific teaching areas.
Special Opportunities
Graduate academic appointments are available for students pursuing graduate studies in the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies. Selection criteria for a graduate assistantship or associate instructorship include scholarship records, experience, previous graduate work, and letters of recommendation. Duties for a student academic appointment may involve assisting faculty with teaching, research, or other departmental duties; teaching classes; working in the Division of Recreational Sports; or other special assignments.

The Director of Recreation degree provides professional preparation beyond the master’s degree for those who are interested in supervisory, administrative, or master teaching positions.
