Changes: Readings for ESL Writers

Jean Withrow, Gay Brookes, and Martha Clark Cummings St. Martin's Press

From the Preface--

"Changes: Readings for ESL Writers is an interactive, developmental, and integrated skills book focusing on reading and writing. It is intended for adults at intermediate to advanced levels. The book helps ESL students develop all language skills, especially reading and writing, through reading and responding to selections in writing and through talking with their peers. This leads to more writing, which is then shared with their peers and instructor.

This book offers a choice of 34 readings with related activities and 18 extra readings, bringing the total to 52. The readings are grouped around themes that fit under the larger heading of changes. Before and after each reading are a number of activities to choose from. These activities draw upon all language skills. The extra readings at the end of each unit focus on the same themes but have no accompanying activities, thus allowing you and your students the freedom to use any of the readings in any way you choose."
