Linguistics for L2 Teachers
by Larry Andrews

This is a great book for heightening awareness about the mechanics of what is going on in the classroom at a language level. Reading this book provides the opportunity to reflect on one's teaching practices and look for ways to improve them in light of new knowledge of how students aquire language. This book is especially powerful when followed by discussion. Consider reading this book with a fellow teacher and bouncing ideas of one another.

Visual Literacy: Learn to See, See to Learn
by Lynell Burmark

Tapping into the strategies advertisers use to get kids attention, Burmark delves into the world of fonts, colors, and visuals. She transfers the same principals used to sell cereal to the teaching of language and other subjects. This book is a great resource for ideas on how to spice up lessons. (And it's fun to look at!)
