The academic discipine of information systems, which parallels
information systems in industry, seeks to further the field
by developing theory that creates, captures and records knowledge,
and by educating newcomers in the field.
The broad categories of information systems (IS) research
includes*:
- Systems/Software/Information and its Management:
System architecture/engineering, software life-cycle/engineering,
methods/techniques, human-computer interaction, information
retrieval, data analysis and modeling, project management
and process management
- Organizational Concepts: Alignment of
organizational structure and strategy with IS, knowledge
management, technology transfer (including innovation, acceptance,
adoption and diffusion), change management, IS usage and
operation, and IS impact
- Societal Concepts: Cultural, legal, ethical
and political implications of IS
The IS Department is engaged in all the three streams of
