India Studies at Indiana University in Bloomington comprises an
undergraduate major, minor, and certificate program, and a Ph.D. minor.
It is a broadly based interdisciplinary program in the College of Arts
and Sciences that also serves the needs of a variety of professional
schools.
The program offers regular work in beginning and intermediate modern
standard Hindi-Urdu and classical Sanskrit. Students interested in
instruction in other South Asian languages should consult the India
Studies director. The India Studies Program, together with cognate
programs in Central Asian, West Asian, and East Asian studies, also
makes possible advanced work in Buddhist studies and Islamic studies
with a focus on India.
Major - B.A. in India Studies
Students
majoring in India Studies will be required to pursue a second major
within the College of Arts and Sciences or a second degree from one of
the professional schools.
In addition to
fulfilling the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts Degree in the
College of Arts and Sciences and/or a professional school, India Studies
majors must complete:
Core Course (3 credit hours)
Language (10 credit hours)
Upper Division (12 credit hours)
• 300-level courses
Final Seminar (3 credit hours)
• 400-level courses
