The India Studies Program at Indiana University has reached a
significant crossroads. Under the Indiana University president’s match
program, if India Studies is able to increase its endowment to $1
million, the University will match the income from the endowment on a
one-to-one basis, effectively doubling India Studies’ institutional
funding. However, the University’s commitment under the President’s
Match program will expire on June 30, 2004.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, India Studies has raised almost
$850,000. But that leaves us $150,000 short of the amount needed to
trigger the university’s match.
Donors who regularly give to India Studies are being asked to formalize
their contributions by signing a five-year pledge, which will be counted
toward the $150,000 goal. For example, those donors who regularly give
$1,000 per year as members of the Friends of India Studies could
formalize their commitment with a pledge of $5,000 over the next five
years, maintaining their current level of giving while giving India
Studies a boost toward that milliondollar goal.
