Word for Word | Paraphrasing | Citing Sources

Practice 1 of 4

Remember: You would cite a paraphrased example as you would a word-for-word quote. Paraphrasing is a condensed version of another author's work, or putting the author's words into your own words.

Please read the original source material carefully and then select the entry, either "A" or "B," that you think has been plagiarized.

Original Source Material: "Paraphrasing material helps you digest a passage, because chances are you can't restate the passage in your own words unless you grasp its full meaning. When you incorporate an accurate paraphrase into your essay, you show your readers that you understand that source."(Lunsford and Connors, 596).

Lunsford, Andrea and Connors, Robert. (1995). St. Martin's Handbook. 3rd Ed. New York: St. Martin's Press. (Quoted from: Lunsford and Connors 597-598).

A) "Paraphrasing material helps you digest a passage, because chances are you can't restate the passage in your own words unless you grasp its full meaning. When you incorporate an accurate paraphrase into your essay, you show your readers that you understand that source."

B) "Paraphrasing material helps you digest a passage, because chances are you can't restate the passage in your own words unless you grasp its full meaning.
