Arts & Culture

There’s an amazingly rich mix of cultural offering and opportunities at IU. Leading concert artists, Broadway touring companies, art exhibits, world leaders, fascinating speakers, and dance troupes regularly come to campus.

The university also produces more than 1,200 musical performances, operas, and theatre productions each year. You can choose to enjoy the shows from the audience, or if you’re happier on stage, you can audition to act, sing, dance, write, play music, produce, direct, and express yourself creatively.

It would be a nearly impossible task to compile all the artistic and cultural outlets found on campus, but here are just a few of the highlights:

Jacobs School of Music

The world-renowned Jacobs School of Music produces more than 30 ensemble performances, eight operas, ballets, and hundreds of student and faculty recitals each year. Performance opportunities are abundant, or you can enjoy the shows from the audience.

Cultural Centers

IU's commitment to our multicultural community is enhanced by three cultural centers on campus — the Asian Culture Center, the Latino Cultural Center, and the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center. Check out the centers' programs and activities, ranging from open houses to game nights to heritage festivals to cooking classes.

IU Auditorium

From big name Broadway shows like RENT, to classic arts such as the American Ballet Theatre, to concerts from Ani DiFranco and Counting Crows, the IU Auditorium has it all. You can purchase a series pass or individual tickets. Or you can sign up to be a volunteer usher and see the shows for free.

IU Art Museum

The IU Art Museum is one of the foremost university art museums in the country. Even if you don’t have time to visit the four galleries inside, be sure to check out the building itself. It was designed by the world-renowned architect I. M. Pei.

Speakers and Lecture Series

World leaders, entertainers, writers, and athletes visit IU on a regular basis. Recent speakers include Colin Powell, Spike Lee, Gloria Steinem, and Maya Angelou. Never miss a chance to hear what the great minds of our time have to say.
