Do you want to get a taste of college, and spend some time on IU's
campus, while you're still in middle or high school? IU offers a wide
range of precollege programs to help you explore your options, have fun,
meet new people, discover hidden talents, and prepare for the exciting
world of college. Many of our programs give you the option of earning
college credit, which can later be applied toward your degree. Others are
just for the sheer fun of it.
Consider a Summer Program
There are close to 20 summer programs offered at IU, designed for sixth
graders all the way up to high school seniors. We really do have something
for everyone. Here are just a few examples:
Take IU Classes at Your High School
Through our Advance College Project (ACP), seniors at select high
schools in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio can
enroll in actual college courses that take place at their school during
the regular school day. Students who enroll in ACP get a head start on
college course work, test their ability to succeed in college classes, and
embark on a more challenging high school curriculum.
Discover Science and Conduct Lab Research
The College of Arts and Sciences offers a number of science
outreach programs for middle and high school students. Get excited about
science, technology, and math while making new friends, conducting
experiments, and having fun. You might consider participating in the Science Olympiad or the Indiana Junior Academy of Science, for instance.
Enroll in a Class on IU's Campus
If you're a high school student and live near IU's campus in
Bloomington, you can enroll in a regularly scheduled IU course and receive
college credit. The OPEN Program
is for highly motivated and high-achieving high school juniors and
seniors.
Experience IU While Still in Middle School
IU's Office
of Community and School Partnerships offers three unique programs
designed to give middle school students a taste of IU. Choose from:
- Pathfinders Summer Camp for 6th-8th graders
- College Kids, which pairs IU students with 4th-8th graders in the
Bloomington community
- Spring Shadow, a program in which students stay on
campus for 3 days and attend classes with IU student mentors.
Complete High School Classes by Independent Study
We offer more than 100 high school courses through our independent study
program. It's a great way to take courses not available at your
school, learn from home, or get a head start on college. The program
utilizes distance education technologies such as the Web, e-mail, CD-ROMs,
and videotapes.
