Application Procedure

Application forms for all grants are available by downloading them from each grant page as Adobe Acrobat PDF files optimized with typeable fields, and should be returned to the Hutton Honors College, 811 E. Seventh Street, Room 210E, by the appropriate deadline. Late applications negatively affect the chance of obtaining a grant. Each applicant must obtain the consent of a Bloomington faculty member to serve as a sponsor for his/her project. Recommendation forms should be completed and returned in time to meet the printed deadline. It is the applicant's responsibility to get the recommendation form to the faculty member and to see that it reaches the Hutton Honors College on time. No application will be reviewed until it is complete.

Deadlines
  • Spring grants-----5 p.m. Last Friday in October
  • Summer grants-----5 p.m. Friday before Spring Break
  • Fall grants-----5 p.m. Friday after Spring Break
  • Travel Grants and Capstone Awards are exceptions. See Individual Grant Pages for details.

Criteria For Selection

The awarding of grants will be based on recommendations of the Undergraduate Grant Program Committee whose membership consists of Hutton Honors College faculty members from various departments and schools on the Bloomington campus. The following general criteria are used in evaluation: 1) Promise of a productive learning experience as indicated by intellectual capacity reflected in grades and faculty opinions, motivation, and the specific background and academic preparation for the award sought; 2) Significance of the activity in developing the student's present capabilities and future promise; 3) Feasibility, clarity, and quality of the proposal; and 4) Equitable distribution of grants among departments and programs.

Summary/Evaluation Of Grants

After the grant-funded activities conclude, each student who has been awarded a grant is required to submit a written summary and evaluation of his/her experience. Students awarded a research or creative activity grant are required to submit an evaluation of their research or creative experience. We expect recipients of internship awards to evaluate those activities. IEP awardees must describe a significant aspect of their journeys. Students who do not supply the Hutton Honors College with written copies of these documents will be ineligible to receive additional funding from the Hutton Honors College. We also reserve the right to ask those students who do not submit these reports to repay their grant funds. Failure to supply the Hutton Honors College with copies of these documents may also hinder the faculty sponsor and department from future participation in the Hutton Honors College Undergraduate Grant Program. These reports are due by the deadline of the grant period that immediately follows the funded activities.

Notification

Normally, applicants will be notified within six weeks of the application deadline.
