OPENING OF DORMS TRAFFIC CONTROL

BLOOMINGTON, IN; On Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at 7 a.m. the Indiana University Police Department will have approximately 60 uniformed officers working to control traffic and parking during the opening of the residence halls.  Officers will be stationed at the residence halls and at critical intersections in an effort to keep traffic flowing while assisting students and their families with their move to campus.  Anyone having business on the IU campus should avoid the streets running through and adjacent to the University. 

 For the quickest access to Briscoe, McNutt and Foster Quads it is recommended to use 17th Street and Fee Lane from the North.  To reach Eigenmann, Ashton, Teter, and Wright Residence Halls drivers should use 10th Street from the east.  Anyone traveling to Forest, Read or Willkie can reach their destination best by coming into campus on 3rd Street.  IUPD will have bicycle officers as well as motor patrol units circulating throughout the IU campus to respond to areas as officers are needed.

The Bloomington Police and Indiana State Police will be assisting motorists entering Bloomington and traveling throughout the city.

The large number of pedestrians and heavy vehicular traffic will make it necessary to restrict parking and traffic in certain areas. 

v On Sunrise Avenue, on the east side of Teter Quad between Tenth and Seventh Streets will be changed.  From 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

§         Sunrise will be one-way south between 7th St. and 10th St.

·         Parking will be regulated in the Teter Quad area for those unloading vehicles and cars should be parked in the larger lots after unloading.

v Two-way traffic will be in effect during this time on 10th Street between Jordan Ave and Union St.  This are had been one-way East due to construction at Ashton Center.

      v The Jordan Avenue Garage will be open free of charge from 7am to 6pm that day only.

v Eigenmann Hall Circle: Drive north from 3rd and Union Street and traffic will enter from the Union Street end and exit on to 10th Street, the North end of the circle drive. 

v At Collins Center at the corner of Tenth Street and Woodlawn Avenue will be changed.  From 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

·         Park Ave. will be one-way north from 7th St. to 10th St.

·         Woodlawn Ave will be one-way south from 10th St. to 7th St.

·         Parking will not be permitted in Woodlawn Field across from Collins Center.

v The University Bus routes will run as normal during this period.
