Professor O'Meara's main field of
interest is comparative politics and development. He has been
concerned with African politics in general and specifically
with Southern African politics, particularly aspects of
opposition, conflict, and nationalism. His interests also
include political theory, and he has taught courses in this
area. His course offerings include Introduction to Political
Philosophy, Comparative and International Development,
Comparative African Politics--South Africa, Urban Politics,
and Violence in Africa. Most recent publications include:
