Therapeutic Recreation Graduate Program
Via Distance Learning

Indiana University offers masters' courses in therapeutic recreation through distance learning. These courses are offered via a closed-circuit TV system that allows students direct audio access to the instructor. Students may speak into a special telephone receiver to raise questions or make comments at any point during a class session.

Program of Study
The program is flexible. Some students will wish to take one to three courses without being admitted into the graduate program. Others will pursue their entire masters' degree. The 35 semester credit masters' degree can be completed in three years on a part-time basis. The majority of classes are offered in the evening or afternoon.

Indiana University offers its graduate courses in Therapeutic Recreation by live, interactive TV at a number of sites in Indiana using the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunications System (IHETS). Courses are also received over IHETS in Maryland, Ohio and Oregon.

All required courses and some elective courses are available over TV. Professors apply the same requirements and rigorous grading standards for the TV courses as they do on-campus courses they teach.

Admissions
All rules of admission, prerequisites, and grade point averages applicable to Indiana University on campus M.S. in Recreation students are applicable to students completing degrees via distance learning. Admissions are based on professional recommendations, undergraduate record, and Graduate Record Examination scores.

Students may take up to 9 semester credits as "nondgree" students before making application for formal admission. The 9 credits taken before formal admission may be counted toward a graduate degree.

Advisement
Each student who is admitted will be assigned a faculty adviser. This adviser will work with the student in the design of the 35 semester credit program.
