Masters in Adapted Physical Education
Overview
The Adapted Physical Education Master's curriculum prepares educators who can modify, adapt, administer and test basic movement processes, theories, and curricular components for individuals with disabilities. Techniques and knowledge acquired lead to the development of master and resource teachers.
The curriculum consists of a 15 credit hour core of adapted physical education course work with additional credit hours devoted to practica experiences. A foundation of core courses in the Department of Kinesiology enables students to receive a Master of Science degree from this department with a specialization in adapted physical education.
If students already have a teaching license in physical education, the adapted physical education concentration in this master's program will enable graduates to apply successfully for certification in any state with certification in adapted physical education.
The program has a rich history, with a curriculum that is continually upgraded to reflect the latest knowledge. Our excellent faculty contributes both to the program's quality and to our graduates' employability. In many instances, facets of our curriculum are used as models for other programs throughout the country.
