Counsilman Center Dedication

The Counsilman Center for the Science of Swimming held a formal dedication of the physical facilities on Saturday, February 25, 2006. After opening remarks from Dean David Gallahue, Dean of the School of HPER, and Dr. John Shea, Chair of the Department of Kinesiology, Dr. Joel Stager, Director of the Center took the microphone. Dr. Stager introduced all the people associated with the center. Doc’s two daughters, Jill and Cathy, were on hand as Marge, Doc’s wife for over 60 years, cut the ribbon officially dedicating the Center. Former IU swimmer and representative of USA swimming, Dr. Paul Sigfusson addressed the crowd. Citing the pioneering work that made Doc an icon in competitive swimming, Dr. Sigfusson felt that the Counsilman Center fills the need for competitive swimming and Indiana University is the place for it to continue.
