Complete Applications for the February 29 audition will be accepted until February 22, 2008

An application and audition are required for admission to the Department of Kinesiology's major in dance at Indiana University. The application packet may be obtained from the Department of Kinesiology.

The audition dates for the 2007-2008 academic year are as follows:

Application Checklist

1. Complete the paper OR online application and submit.

2. Please list all dance studies and experiences, including place of instruction, teachers, length of study and genre of dance training and performing experiences, as well as any honors or awards and SEND AS AN EMAIL ATTACHMENT TO: mlperkin@indiana.eduone lone male dancer

3. Please submit an essay that discusses why you hope to attend Indiana University and pursue a major in dance. Include possible career goals for your dance studies. This essay is an important component of the audition/selection process. Please SEND AS AN EMAIL ATTACHMENT TO: mlperkin@indiana.edu

4. Please submit a digital photograph of yourself in dance practice clothes. The photograph will not be used as admission criteria; it is simply to assist us during the audition process. Please SEND THE PHOTO AS AN EMAIL ATTACHMENT TO: mlperkin@indiana.edu

When all steps have been completed, and all materials have been received, you will receive an email confirmation of your audition date. Thank you for applying for the dance major in the Department of Kinesiology.

ALL APPLICATION MATERIALS FOR THE DANCE MAJOR MUST BE RECEIVED AT LEAST THREE WEEKS PRIOR TO THE AUDITION DATE. YOU WILL RECEIVE A CONFIRMATION LETTER PRIOR TO THE AUDITION. THIS LETTER MUST BE PRESENTED AT THE TIME OF THE AUDITION.

Please report to room 161 HPER at 9:30 am on the date of the audition. A campus map will accompany your confirmation letter. Auditionees will have the opportunity to observe a modern dance technique class from 10:00am-11:30am. The audition will begin promptly at 11:30am with a two hour technique class. The class will consist of a ballet barre and several modern dance combinations. Box lunches will be served from 1:30pm – 2:15pm. Students should then be prepared to show a 2 minute solo in the modern dance genre. Solos may be choreographed by the performers, or by a dance professional. Following the audition, dancers may elect to view repertory rehearsals from 3:30pm-6:30pm, at which time faculty will also be available to answer questions. Letters indicating audition results will be sent approximately two weeks following the audition.

PLEASE NOTE:

ALL STUDENTS MUST OFFICIALLY APPLY AND BE ACCEPTED TO INDIANA UNIVERSITY BLOOMINGTON PRIOR TO BEING ADMITTED TO THE KINESIOLOGY DANCE MAJOR. sTUDENTS MAY AUDITION FOR THE MAJOR PRIOR TO OFFICIAL ADMISSION TO IU.

ADDITIONALLY, IN ADHERENCE TO UNIVERSITY POLICY, STUDENTS WHO PASS THE AUDITION PROCESS AND ARE ADMITTED TO INDIANA UNIVERSITY BLOOMINGTON MUST COMPLETE 26 CREDIT HOURS WITH A GRADE POINT AVERAGE OF 2.0 OR HIGHER IN ORDER TO BE OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED INTO THE DANCE MAJOR.
