Athletic Training
Quick Links
Indiana University has been preparing athletic trainers since 1949. Today, Indiana University is the one of only a few institutions in the United States to offer both undergraduate and graduate athletic training programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
Program
Students who complete the Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a major in athletic training are prepared to sit for the Board of Certification exam. The three-year athletic training program stresses clinical experience in addition to course work.
During the sophomore year, students work in a variety of athletic training rooms two to three times a week. As juniors, students rotate through the athletic training room, working with five different sports, and attending all home games and practices. During the senior year, each student is assigned to a single sport and is present for all practices and games, both home and away.
This progression exposes students to a variety of different philosophies and techniques as they work side-by-side with the university's talented and experienced professional athletic training staff to provide optimal care for the athletes who participate in the 24 Indiana University men's and women's intercollegiate sports.
Admission Standards
Students who have been admitted to Indiana University are eligible to be considered for admission to the Athletic Training Program at the end of the freshman year. Applications for the program are accepted until April 1. The number of students admitted to the professional athletic training major is limited to the number of practicum spaces available.
