AFRICAN ART

Art and Life in Africa Project
A program on African art based on The Stanley Collection at The University of Iowa Museum of Art. The program seeks to recontextualize African art objects through multimedia technologies. Its online resources include databases of African peoples and countries, maps, and links to other sites. The project's CD-ROM is due out in Summer 1998.
H-Afrarts
Cosponsored by Humanities and Social Sciences OnLine (H-Net) and the Arts Council of the African Studies Association (ACASA), this site "focuses on the expressive cultures of Africa and the African Diaspora." Archives of H-Afrarts Discussion list, exhibition announcements, reviews.
Modern African Art: A Basic Reading List

Meta-list compiled by Jeanne M. Brown, Architecture Studies Librarian University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Covers a diverse array of topics relating to architecture and design.

Database of 20th century architects and their works, including both built and unrealized projects. Browsable by architect and location (in English) and keyword (in German). Text is primarily German, but the plentiful selection of dates, project lists, and pictures transcend language differences.

BOOK ARTS

Book Arts Web
Large collection of information and links on the books art, collected by book artist Peter Verheyen. Among its contents: organizations, study opportunities, tutorials, and an FAQ on BOOKARTS-L, the book arts mailing list.
Center for the Book Arts
Exhibitions, membership information, class schedules and apprenticeship opportunities are among the resources available at the Center, which "is dedicated to the preservation of the traditional crafts of bookmaking, as well as contemporary interpretations of the book as an art object."
