Travel by Plane

Indianapolis International Airport

The Indianapolis International Airport is about 55 miles north of Bloomington.

Ground Transportation from Airport

The drive to Bloomington is about one hour by car or limo; it can be longer by shuttle bus or van which make stops at several Bloomington hotels.

You may plan to use Bloomington Shuttle Service if you arrive during their service hours; or request limo service if you arrive after hours. Both Bloomington Shuttle Service and the limousine services leave from the Ground Transportation Center, located in the airport parking structure. Signs for the Ground Transportation Center may be seen throughout the airport.

To reach the Ground Transportation Center, exit the airport terminal through the doors opposite Baggage Claim Carousel Number Two (2). You will cross several lanes of traffic before arriving at the parking structure. To your right, you will find a blue, steel and glass structure called the Ground Transportation Center. Several limousine services, shuttle services, and taxi services have information booths located inside. Locate the booth for your transportation carrier and identify yourself to the available agent.

Travel by Car

Driving Directions

From the North (from I-465 in Indianapolis)

1. Take Indiana State Road 37 South (Harding Street exit) for 35-40 miles to the first Bloomington exit (College Avenue).

2. Proceed to 7th St.

3. Turn left onto 7th St. Proceed 6 blocks until you reach campus.

4. Continue past Dunn Meadow and Ernie Pyle Hall (the IU School of Journalism) on your right until you come to the stop sign and traffic kiosk in front of the Indiana Memorial Union.

5. Turn right at the guard station into the circle drive in front of the IMU and enter the pay lot.

From the South (from State Road 37)

1. Take Indiana State Road 37 until you reach the 3rd St. exit.

2. Take the 3rd St. exit.

3. Head east toward Bloomington. Note that 3rd St. will curve toward the left just before it nears a cemetery.

4. Follow the curve to the left. This puts you on 5th St.

5. 5th St. is renamed Kirkwood Ave once you get to the Courthouse Square.

6. Follow Kirkwood Ave. until you dead-end into Indiana Ave., a one-way street.

7. Turn left onto Indiana.

8. Go to the first stop sign. This is 7th St.

9. Turn right onto 7th St.

10. Continue past Dunn Meadow and Ernie Pyle Hall, the IU School of Journalism, on your right until you come to the traffic kiosk at the stop sign in front of the Indiana Memorial Union.

11. Turn right at the kiosk into the circle drive in front of the IMU and enter the pay lot.

From the East (from State Road 46)

1. On State Road 46, you will enter Bloomington's residential and shopping area; State Road 46 becomes East Third Street.

2. Continue on East Third Street past Forrest Quad residence halls on your right.

3. Go through the stoplight at Third and Jordan. Continue through the stoplight at Third and Hawthorne. Get in the right hand lane in order to prepare for a right turn. Continue to the stoplight at Third and Indiana.

4. Turn right onto Indiana, a one-way street. The first stop sign is at Indiana and Kirkwood. The Sample Gates are to your right, and the new Carmichael Center is to your left. Continue past this intersection to the next stop sign at the intersection of Indiana and 7th St.

5. Turn right onto 7th St.

6. Continue past Dunn Meadow and Ernie Pyle Hall, the IU School of Journalism, on your right until you come to the traffic kiosk at the stop sign in front of the Indiana Memorial Union.

7. Turn right at the kiosk into the circle drive in front of the IMU and enter the pay lot.

From the West (from State Road 46)

1. Follow State Road 46 into Bloomington; it temporarily joins State Road 37 and then quickly turns left at a traffic light onto the State Road 46 Bypass. Follow the bypass to the fourth traffic light (Indiana State Police Post on the right).

2. Turn right onto Fee Lane.

3. Continue on Fee Lane until it dead-ends on 10th St.

4. Turn right on 10th St. At the first traffic light, turn left onto Woodlawn.

5. Proceed on Woodlawn until you reach the stop sign at 7th St. Just past this point, 7th St. dead ends into a loading dock.

6. Turn left onto 7th St.

7. Take 7th St. to the traffic kiosk and stop sign in front of the Indiana Memorial Union.

8. Turn right at the kiosk into the circle drive in front of the IMU and enter the pay lot.

From the West and Southwest (from State Road 45 or 48)

1. Take Indiana State Road 45 or 48 to Indiana State Road 37.

2. Turn left onto State Road 37 and continue north to State Road 46.

3. Turn right onto State Road 46.

4. At the fourth traffic light (Indiana State Police Post on the right) turn right onto Fee Lane.

5. Continue on Fee Lane until it dead-ends on 10th St.

6. Turn right on 10th St. At the first traffic light, turn left onto Woodlawn.

7. Proceed on Woodlawn until you reach the stop sign at 7th St. Just past this point, 7th St. deadends into a loading dock.

8. Turn left onto 7th St.

9. Take 7th St. to the traffic kiosk and stop sign in front of the Indiana Memorial Union.

10. Turn right at the kiosk into the circle drive in front of the IMU and enter the pay lot.
