UNESCO BOOK PRIZE FOR CHILDREN'S AND YOUNG PEOPLE'S
LITERATURE IN THE SERVICE OF TOLERANCE


The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization established the "UNESCO Prize for Children's and Young People's Literature in the Service of Tolerance" in order to carry the message of the UN Year for Tolerance beyond 1995. UNESCO Prize is awarded every two years in recognition of works for the young that best embody the concepts and ideals of tolerance and peace, and promote understanding based on mutual respect for other people and their cultures. Submiitted works may be novels, collections of short stories, and pciture books. The winner of the prize in each category (< 13 years and 13-18 years) receives US $8,000.
